BIRD SPECIES LIST

Contents Home Library

A species list for birds for a specified area is problematic. Birds have wings and most can fly. Some traverse 1000's of kilometers in seasonal migrations. Some of the birds on Magnetic Island are full-time residents, others may live here only in one season and yet others may visit adjacent mainland areas in search of food water or mates. It depends on the habits and cycles of the individual species. All types are usually included in bird lists, as they are here, please refer to Key.

This is a very long list. Click on family type to go direct and use your 'back' button to return. To search by common or scientific name use the 'find' command in your browser. Otherwise scroll. Click on camera to view images. When photos open - click to enlarge

Raptors Curlews Honeyeaters Doves Owls Parrots Rails Cuckoos Fantails Kingfishers Crows Butcherbirds/Currawongs Herons

The List and Keys were researched and prepared by Patrick Centurino (QPWS, Magnetic Island).

Photographs used with permission of individual photographers whose contribution is greatly appreciated and who retain copyright. Photos may not be reproduced elsewhere without their permission.

Photos and species reports will be added for as many bird species as possible. Contributions welcome - if you have photos of any of the birds that aren't illustrated and would like to share them (credited of course) or are interested in writing a species report on your favourite bird, please email the editor at info@s4space.com.au
